The Sleeper

Bob Bridge's 1970 El Camino Custom.

Imagine, purchasing an El Camino from the original owner who actually lives in San Bruno. That's what happened with Bob and his new, exciting purchase.

Bob purchased the truck in July 2009 from the original owner who lives in San Bruno. The original owner purchased the truck in September 1970 from the Chevrolet dealer in San Francisco. The El Camino is a 350/250 hp, turbo 350, power steering, power assisted front disk brakes. The truck had 152,000 original miles when he purchased it.

This past April/May/June, Bob had had Smitty at Country Automotive (a club sponsor) replace the original drive train. He installed a GM ZZ502 Deluxe crate engine (502/502 hp), late model (1990-93) 700 R4 transmission built to handle the new engine, and a 1969 12 bolt rear end with new axles and a 3:31 posi.

Bob still has some additional work to do so that the outside of the truck looks original. He wants to replace the mag wheels with original steel wheels and full wheel hub caps; remove the Protect-O-Top bed cover and repaint the truck to it's original Champagne Gold!

This is one El Camino that will blow people away with its sleeper look, until they see what's under the hood. When you see Bob, ask him if you can take a peek under the hood!
